Piper Super Cub Wing / Aileron Pully Grommet
The grommet for the upper aileron pully is glued down. Now I need to make a "doily" , fabric doubler to cover the grommet. These are cut from the same fabric used to cover the wing. Plain un-shrunk fabric can be used, but I prefer to pre-shrink the fabric at 250degf, fill with a light coat of Poly Brush, then cut out with pinking shears.
It's been a while since I've done this, I got in a little bit of a hurry, and it didn't go as smooth as I'd of liked, but the results were good.

    Today I sewed a tent clasp. I replaced them with new ones after my daughter decided to break them a year ago. Nobody wanted to take the job, so it fell to me. It's been 10 hours. That's why I understand your effort. I wish I had a Father like you. Take care and thank you for visiting me. Would you like me to summarize what I'm talking about in the video?

      The cover(dome) was on the wing. If you don't have one already Univair sells them or you might find one on Ebay. The grommet I got from Stoddards in Anchorage, but they are a Univair distributor.

    In previous episodes I wondered why you didn't have equipment to rotate the wing. I figured you just preferred turning by hand. However, necessity is the mother of invention. Finish the idea of the turntable because there will be a second wing. You will definitely regain this wasted time when you rotate them freely.

    Hi. I admire the amount of work done. I envy your self-discipline. Today I was possessed by pain and lay in bed. It has been raining outside for two days. It's a pity that your son crashed the car. I hope he escaped the collision unscathed. Is the deer alive? They also often run out onto the road here, but my wife drives slowly and always manages to stop. It's worse with cats and foxes because they jump straight under the wheels. Take care.

      Son is fine, deer and car not so much. Head one, dead center at 50mph(80kph). I hope you get to feeling better. I have had days when the only reason I get up is because it hurts more to stay in bed. It is hard to get motivated when it is raining steady.

    Can you tell me where and the part number of the black box for the light and like to know if it will work with the old type of light ? Thanks

    • @psgflier
      @psgflier 3 дня назад

      sorry I didn't get back to you sooner. The box the switch came in was in the basement and I kept forgetting to get it. I don't remember if I got this from Ebay or Amazon, probably Amazon. It's CrewDog Electronics wig-wag flasher for par36 led lights. I guess it only works on leds. I'd recommend switching to leds over the old style lights. If you still operate with the original 25 amp generator it can't keep up charging the battery when operating all the lights and radios. I can remember flying blacked out on a couple of night flights because the battery went dead mid-flight and had to shut everything down to let the battery charge up so I'd have lights and radio when I got near an airport. Operating with lights on during all flights is now recommended for collision avoidance, and it helps prevent bird strikes. The old GE4509 bulb only has a live of 14 hours. Before leds we used to get halogen or quarts bulbs, they put out more light and lasted longer. For day use only I'd get tractor lights, they don't put out as much light but work fine for recognition lights in dense traffic. The GE 4509s cost around $50 from an aircraft supplier but around $15 from a hardware store. They are the same exact light. Some A&Ps will tell you that you have to use approved bulbs in aircraft but there are no approved bulbs for most small general aviation airplane. The GE4509 is no more FAA approved than the new LEDs. With modern solid state avionics and leds the current load on the airplane is reduced to the point that a 25amp generator is more than enough to supply with everything running. B&C makes a small alternator that mounts to one of the accessory pads(like for vacuum pump) on Lycoming engines, It saves several pounds and is plenty for my needs but is not approved for certified airplanes yet.

      I put a new fuselage on the plane a few years ago, here is a link to the playlist of the complete build-- ruclips.net/p/PL66yajaTvAZy4qZEyN9dMi1TrZeK This is a link to my first start at fabric work on the fuselage build-- ruclips.net/video/OaJBy-oyHXw/видео.html This is a link to how we made the cover for the fuselage-- ruclips.net/video/EKrdsTjCl9g/видео.html There is series of doing the covering of the tailfeathers and fuselage, and later in the playlist covering an aileron and flap. Feel free to watch any of these videos and use as you see fit, just remember, I am not an expert at any of this so my free advice is worth what you pay for it. Univair, Aircraft Spruce and others sell a covering video done by the EAA that is pretty good, I use it a lot but the dvd has a crack in it so it won't play all the way anymore. Of course the PolyFibre manual is the bible for the PolyFibre system but it helps to have some video or hand on reference. FAA AC43-13 has a section on fabric covering of course. PolyFibre has a practice kit you can get with some fabric, chemicals and a frame to use to practice on. I got a couple of those to carry with me when I was working in the bush for emergency repairs. The frames worked out to pre-shrink material for making inspection covers and grommets.

      @@martinabud5735 It's kind of a bummer, I have 4 more good bow blanks, if you were here I'd give you a couple. You should be able to find white oak or ash in your area and have a local wood worker make a couple. The bows are 1" wide, 1/2" thick half round. I think finished length is 94", but it's good to start at least 100". The rear is tapered down to 5/8" wide from just behind the rear spar attach.

    At the bell crank pivot point with the rod should have a thin washer top and bottom with the contersink screw.

    • @psgflier
      @psgflier Месяц назад

      2 960L washers are not quite enough to fill the gap, 1 L and 1 regular washer are too much. There is actually a special Piper washer supposed to be used, but , of course, they're expensive and you have to get them from a Piper supplier. 2 thin washers leave a little slop, just don't tighten the bolt up to the point of compressing the ears on the bell crank to take the slop out..

      @psgflier Месяц назад

      Unfortunately there are not any real good videos on You Tube showing the Poly Fiber process. I watched a lot of videos when I needed to learn when I covered the fuselage and tailfeathers. Above Alaska Aviation did several airplanes for the Alaska Airman's Assoc. raffles. If you slow them down you can get some pointers. There was a young woman, Iapplyufly, posting videos then that had some good pointers. Spencer Aircraft posted some clips of a covering seminar they sponsored. The clips are short and cut out a lot, but, again, some good stuff can be gleaned I have a dvd that the old poly fiber put out that is pretty good. There are some clips of it on You Tube but they are chopped up pretty bad. The ones from Consolidated that has Poly Fiber now leave a lot to be desired, bad music in place of instructional narration. There is some cross-over from Stewart Systems, but the chemicals are too different to rely on too close.
